my little runaway

SYNOPSIS

“MY LITTLE RUNAWAY” is a youthful drama of two girls from completely different cultures, led together by coincidences of life. It is a story of what remains when one opens a curtain of stereotypes used for hiding from oneself and the others.

EMA (28) is a modern Lithuanian girl to the core – from the fear of gaining weight to the typical city dweller's stressfulness. But one day Ema has had enough of it. She decides to quit the job she doesn't love, her boring boyfriend and head where sun always shines and the worries are supposed to be less – she is going to work as a travel guide in Turkey.

However, the foreign land meets Ema not only with warm weather and a charming colleague AHMET (30), unreservedly showing his interest in her. She also encounters a hard-to-grasp exotic environment and the same routine of life that she tried to escape from.

Yet Ema befriends Ahmet's sister FATMA (24), a girl from a traditional religious muslim family. A girl, at first sight, restricted by rigorous family rules and social norms. Paradoxically, what is usually supposed to set Ema and Fatma apart, makes them closer. Until one day, Fatma unexpectedly disappears...

“MY LITTLE RUNAWAY” is not only a story of two young women but also of the confrontation between "Cristian" or European and "Muslim" or Mid-Eastern worlds, lately so much accentuated by the media. It is about people searching for their true self in both Lithuania, which still hasn't found its identity after two decades of independence, and Turkey, trying to catch some European shadows without forgetting its old ways.
